Hobby Farms and Community Gardens
Abraham Acres
Named after Nhia Bee Yang (Nyiaj Npis Yaj), had 40 acres in 2012 and then expanded with additional 120 acres in 2021. The land consists of grazing fields for a number of animals like chickens, ducks, cows, and goats as well as hunting and camping grounds for the family of Nhia Bee and friends. Family also often ride ATV’s and drive campers out for gatherings.
Leeyon Yang Family Farm
Pine City, MN - A family farm of 15 acres with a double-wide for family and visiting guests. The land is used mainly for raising cows, goats and poultry.
Num Fwm Chang Farm
Stillwater, MN - A hobby farm of 20 acres. The family enjoys using the land for gatherings and some of their favorite past times like hunting and raising minimal livestock.
Logan Yang Farm
Rockcreek, MN - A hobby farm of 70 acres with a family home. The family often camp, hunt and raise small amounts of animals on the land. It is also a place of gathering during seasonal times throughout the year.
Kong Yang Family Farm
Rush city, MN - This family hobby farm is on 100 acres of land. The land is mainly used for farming and raising organic poultry. The goal of the land is to have ready access to healthy food, family activities, and past times.
Chai Her Farm
Hinckly, MN - This farm sits on 20 acres of land and used for subsistence farming as well as a hobby farm. This family farm is enjoyed by the family and all their friends and relatives who gather for activities.
Pha Yang Farm
Mora, MN - This farm is on 20 acres of land. The land was purchased mainly for hobby farming and hunting.
Lue Vang Farm
Nessel Township, Rush City, MN - This hobby farm sits on 40 acres and used for raising guineas, chickens, ducks, goats, and cows. The family enjoys taking care of the animals, visiting the land for gatherings, and bringing family there.
Ger Vang Farm
Hinckly, MN - This hobby farm sits on 20 acres and is used for camping and hunting. It is also about 5 miles from Grand Casino in Hinckley. The location makes it perfect for family gathering throughout the year.
HAFA
The first and only Hmong American Farmer’s Association in the state of Minnesota. HAFA was formed by a group of Hmong farming families in 2011, to uplift, advocate, and support Hmong farmers across the state. Today, HAFA not only supports small farmers, but also owns and operates about 155 acres of farmland in Dakota County. These 155 acres are open for farmers to lease the land for farming as well as sell to the HAFA Food Hub. HAFA continues to support and advocate for small family farms and sustainable food practices.
AGAPE Garden
AGAPE Garden was started by the late Song Khang with a dream to build a Hmong friendly farm that is welcoming and supports indigenous Hmong cultural practices. Song built the farm on the acreage that is a part of her family home in Hugo, MN, with just one simple Hmong house and then expanded the farm with bridges connecting across the exisiting creek, as well as other smaller units that can be rented out for day stay or overnight experiences. The farm also has a few acres of Hmong vegetables and traditional Hmong herbs. AGAPE Garden was built as a mental health and cultural facility to teach the community about Hmong indigenous farming practices, as well as cultural pracitces.
