Community

Hmong is traditionally a colletive society with complex and multifacted networks of kinship, clanship, and social structures. A community is often made up of key individuals who lead in certain spaces or key locations that are vital to Hmong families. Whether these are people or places, community is in every aspect of Hmong lives from birth to death. No one phase of life can operate without a community space or community leadership and key roles. When Hmong settled in the USA, it was because of community that led many to migrate from other states and join Hmong families in Minnesota. Today, Hmong families have created their own strong communities throughout the state.
